Best Night Creams For Every Budget – Part Three

The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion

If harsher acne solutions containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid are leaving you red and irritated (but still broken out), go the natural route. The organic, fair trade tea tree oil in this nighttime lotion contains terpinen-4-ol, an antibacterial agent that kills zit-causing bacteria while controlling oil production.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant Nighttime Miracle Moisturizer

It feels light in your hand, but the shea butter formula transforms chapped, irritated cheeks into supple, glowing canvases for your prettiest blush. The enticing lavender scent puts your mood and your brain in sleepytime mode, and a dose of salicylic acid also helps keep breakouts at bay.

Naturopathica Argan & Retinol Wrinkle Repair Night Cream

Retinol, a prescription-grade derivative of vitamin A, is one of the few proven ingredients to reduce wrinkles and repair your skin. “You usually have to wear serious SPF when you’re using a retinol cream,” explains Karcher, “but since you’re not exposed to the sun while you sleep, overnight is the perfect time to apply retinol.” This organic cream features a tri-retinol blend and a powerful peptide for prescription-worthy results.

Best Night Creams For Every Budget – Part Two

Jurlique Nutri-Define Rejuvenating Overnight Cream

If nothing seems to penetrate your very dry skin, try this buttery mix of olive fruit and jojoba oils. They’re combined with a patent-pending blend of horseradish, mulberry root extract, and rosemary leaf extract (all potent antioxidants), plus soothing and revitalizing peppermint leaf extract and glycogen to firm up your face.

Dermalogica Pure Night

Be prepared not to recognize yourself in the morning—in a very good way. Targeting hyperpigmentation and dark spots, this overnight treatment helps control melanin production to leave skin tone more even and luminous (you can thank its skin-brightening vitamin C for that glow). A combination of raspberry and cranberry seed oils also works to restore your lipid barrier, the all-important layer that keeps hydration in.

Philosophy Miracle Worker Overnight

“Peptides help stimulate collagen and elastin, two things you need for plumper, firmer skin,” explains Karcher, and this cream is loaded with them—specifically from the extracts from lemons and apples. Vitamin C goes to work on stubborn dark spots while the super hydrating cream locks in moisture ‘til morning.

Best Night Creams For Every Budget – Part One

If all you do is splash some water on your face before heading to bed, you’re doing your skin a serious disservice. Night time is the perfect time to apply your strongest, most powerful anti-aging ingredients because you don’t have to worry about protecting your skin from the sun, pollution, or harsh temperatures. That means you get to focus all your wrinkle-fighting efforts on one key thing: repair. These night creams offer potent, proven ingredients to help repair your skin while you sleep – no matter how tight your beauty budget may be.

L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream

Older skin is duller skin—literally, thanks to slowed-down cell turnover. L’Oreal’s newest night-time cream speeds up cell renewal while you sleep with lipo-hydroxy acid, which exfoliates away those dead skin cells on the top of skin so you’ll actually wake up to younger-looking skin. An antioxidant called natecium DHC (extracted from bitter orange peel) also helps repair the damage done from free radicals.

Korres Black Pine Firming, Lifting & Antiwrinkle Night Cream

It can be said that connective tissue isn’t the sexiest of skin care topics. But it plays an important role in your skin’s elasticity, resilience, and hydration. The scientists at Korres discovered that the antioxidant properties in hardy black pine (which survives in even the harshest climates) can help speed up your skin’s connective tissue renewal—which could be sagging due to aging.

Borghese Age-Defying Cellulare Complex Hydrate Night Renewal Emulsion

The Italian spa brand is bringing its expertise to your next Target spree. Here’s why your skin will be as happy as your wallet: This super luxurious, paraben-free night cream rehydrates skin with nourishing grape seed oil and hyaluronic acid, while a slew of antioxidants help repair damage done by free radicals during the day.

Biggest Retinoid Myths

Retinoid or retinols – you can easily be confused. Some people claim that these two terms refer to the same things – other claim otherwise. There are plenty of false information on the internet about retinoid, and here we bring you some of the biggest myths that can be read these days.

No 1 – Retinol, retinoic acid… Never mind, they do the same thing.

This is only half truth. Prescription formulas contain retinoic acid, the magic ingredient that fights visible aging. On the other hand, nonprescription alternatives need to be converted into retinoic acid by the skin at the cellular level. Although retinol and retinoic acid basically do the same thing, studies have shown that retinol is more gentle and more suitable for the skin.

No 2 – Retinoids cause sunburns.

This is probably one of the biggest myths out there. And it’s totally false. It’s true that retinoids break down in sunlight, which is why they are bottled in opaque packaging and are still best worn at night – to make sure they aren’t rendered inactive. So, they won’t cause sunburns. But, they don’t make the skin prone to sunburn either.

Tips For Moisturizing Oily Skin

In several of our previous articles we’ve mentioned the importance of moisturizing oily skin. Many women are making mistakes by believing that oily skin shouldn’t be moisturized. We’ve already talked about how wrong this is, so here we bring you a few tips for moisturizing oily skin.

Exfoliate – It’s very important to exfoliate your dead skin. If you don’t do that, you’re increasing the risk of acne. Exfoliating once in a week should be more than enough.

Oil-free products – The best moisturizer for oily skin is the one that’s lightweight, non-comedogenic (meaning it won’t clog your pores) and oil-free. Maybe you’ll spend more time searching for this type of product, but it will be definitely worth it.

Routine – It’s very important to set your own skincare routine. Cleanse, treat and moisturize your skin in the end. Try to apply topical products that treat or prevent acne. Daily lotion is also helpful when you’re having problems with redness and irritation.

Sunscreen – During the summer the needs of our skin change. So if you want to keep your skin healthy, use sunscreen in combination with moisturizes. And this is important for all skin types, not only for oily skin.

Keep it cool – Skin and hot water are not good friends. Although a hot shower seems like a good idea to you, your skin won’t like it. Try to avoid hot water, and your skin will be grateful. Water hotter than 37oC (100oF) will damage your skin and cause problems. Temperature from 30 – 35oC (85 – 95oF) is perfect if you want to keep your skin healthy and well hydrated.
