Basic Skin Care Routines

Skin care products are cosmetic products that you buy when you want to improve or slightly alter the look and health of your skin. When it comes to skin care, you should remember that, although there are thousands of skin care products available out there, you don’t need all of them. Your purchase of skin care products should be based on your particular type of skin (because skin care products are differently formulated for different skin types).
After you’ve determined your skin type, the next step is to know some general routines in regards to skin care. A few of those basic routines include moisturizing, exfoliating, cleansing, protecting, toning, masks etc.

Moisturizers are complex chemical compounds that are specifically designed to increase the hydration of the skin (the content of water in the skin itself) by minimizing evaporation. Their basic purpose is to provide protection for sensitive skin, improve the texture and tone of skin etc. Moisturizers should be applied to all skin types, just make sure you purchase the ones that are formulated specifically for your skin type.

Exfoliating is a process of removing old, dead skin cells in order to improve the appearance and health of the skin. Exfoliation is most often achieved by mechanical means such as sponges, brushes and other types of abrasive materials, but it can also be achieved by certain chemical means, such as enzymes derived from fruit and various types of acid.

Cleansing is an essential routine that needs to be performed on a daily basis by all skin types. Depending on skin types, water based cleansers, oil based cleansers or soap can be used.

Protecting your skin from the sun is a skin care task that should be taken seriously. The sun can cause skin cancer, as well as sunburns, drying of the skin and other kinds of dangerous skin damage. Sunscreen comes, most often, in the form of lotions, creams and gels.

Toners are products that are generally used after cleansers, in the purpose of restoring the natural PH of the skin, or removing any traces of cleansers. Depending on the type of your skin, you should use toners with alcohol if you have oily skin and without alcohol if you have dry or normal skin.

And finally masks are skin care treatments applied to the face in the purpose of exfoliating, hydrating and transporting various useful chemicals to the skin. Masks can be divided into several categories, such as sheet masks (primarily popular in Asia, suited for all skin types), clay based masks (restricted to use on oily skins), and peel masks (not intended for people with dry skin).
